Cookie policy
General information
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. They provide a way for the website to remember you and your use of the website.
To learn more about cookies please visit cookiesandyou.com, aboutcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org.
How we use cookies
We use cookies to remember your preferences (preferred language, units of measurement, etc), also to monitor the traffic to our websites.
Cookies don't hold personal information on their own, they either only contain a unique alphanumeric key that sits on your browser to identify your session or store preferences that are not personal information. Cookies do not link any information that we store on them or collect through them with you as an individual. This is why your preferences are not preserved across different browsers or devices until you sign in and your preferences are restored.
The cookies that we use fall into three categories:
- Necessary cookies are those without which you might have a hard time viewing our websites, for example you will not be able to sign in and persist your login status or switch language and preserve your preference when switching from one page to another.
- Performance cookies are used to analyse the way our websites work, how efficient they are, how people use them and ultimately help us with how we can improve them.
- Functionality cookies help remember things such as the fact that you saw the notification about cookies and dismissed it so that you don't need to do that every time you visit a new page.
In addition to the cookies we use on our websites, we might also use cookies and similar technologies in email messages that we send which help us understand whether a message has been opened and interacted with.
We sometimes use "persistent" as well as "session" cookies. A "session" cookie is allocated for the duration of your visit to a website and expires when you close your browser. A "persistent" cookie can remain on your browser for a time period.
Controlling cookies
You can control cookies in your browser, enable or disable them. You can restrict or block cookies set by any website through your web browser settings, this is something that you need to do separately on each device and browser that you use to access the internet.
Information on controlling and deleting cookies can be found on the websites mentioned in the "General information" section of this article.
Some services may not function or have limited functionality if your web browser does not accept cookies. You can allow cookies from specific websites by marking them as "trusted websites" in your web browser settings.
The FMF does not make use of any advertising network, but you might find interesting the website Your Online Choices by the Internet Advertising Bureau, which allows you to install opt-out cookies which work across different advertising networks.
If you do not wish to accept cookies from emails, you can choose not to download images included in the messages nor click on links found inside them. You can also set your browser to restrict cookies or to reject them entirely. These settings will apply to all cookies whether originating from websites, email messages or other sources.
Depending on your email and browser settings, cookies in email messages can be accepted automatically, for example when the sender is in your address book or safe senders list. For more information you will need to refer to your email browser or device instructions.
